WeChat + digital cards: how sharing actually works in Asia

Most digital business card tools were built for the US market, where the share flow is "send an email or a text." In Asia, your card usually travels through WeChat or WhatsApp — and that changes everything.

The WeChat problem

WeChat has a famously locked-down browser. Images from external hosts often fail to load, and links to certain domains show a warning page that kills the experience. If your card's background photo or avatar doesn't render, it looks broken — and that first impression is the whole point.

How Cubby handles it

  • Images are proxied through our own domain so backgrounds, avatars, and GIFs load reliably inside WeChat's browser.
  • The card is a plain web page — nothing to install, no app to download. It opens wherever your contact is standing.
  • QR codes work offline. Print the QR on your paper card, desk, or phone case; anyone who scans it lands on your live card.

The practical flow

  1. You meet someone at an event.
  2. You send your card link — or they scan your QR.
  3. They tap "Save contact" and your details are in their phone.
  4. Your card updates instantly when you change it. No reprinting, no reordering.

That last point is the quiet killer: a paper card is a snapshot of you from the day you printed it. A digital card is you now.
